This enables it to retain its core elasticity as well as resist surface stresses such as abrasion. Passivated steel has undergone chemical surface treatment to prevent oxidation. The sleeve protects the bike, for example its rim, from rubbing against the anti-theft device, and therefore from scratches. The cold-resistant locks have been tested and work even in freezing conditions. The symmetrical system allows the shackle to be inserted into the body in both directions. The double locking mechanism enables the removable part of the lock to be locked into the fixed part at two points. This maximizes the force and time required to attack it. Hardened steel has been heat treated that gives it a very rigid structure and high hardness. Its carbon alloy gives it mechanical properties superior to those of conventional steels.
